FOCUS, the Fellowship of Catholic University Students, is a national campus outreach that meets college students where they are and invites them to examine the meaning and purpose of their lives. Through large group outreach, small group Bible studies and one on one mentoring, FOCUS staff are equipped to introduce college students to the Person of Jesus Christ and the Catholic faith, empowering them to share His love with the world.
More About Focus
Sean is a Colorado native from Golden and graduated from Regis University in 2008 with a degree in Neuroscience. He was preparing to become a physical therapist when God slammed every door to that profession and told him to become a missionary. Sean is starting his fifth year with FOCUS and spent the past 4 years at Benedictine College serving as a Varsity Catholic Missionary. He is extremely excited to be in Vermont where there are mountains and plenty of outdoor activities. Some of his hobbies include skiing, snowboarding, hiking, camping, rugby, soccer, golf, tennis and virtually all things outdoors. Please feel free to call him if you need a sport buddy or extra person for an intramural team!
Northeast born and raised, Chris grew up in MA, graduated from Seton Hall University in NJ with a degree in biology and served on FOCUS staff for two years at UVM, leaving to serve as Team Director at UConn for one year and returned to UVM. He continues to enjoy married life with a wife he met through serving here at the Catholic Center. If you head to Fenway, Foxboro or the Garden consider bringing this fellow fan along (seriously, though). Chris also loves maps, home-cooked food and getting good deals.
Steve grew up in Cleveland, Ohio and is the oldest of five children. He studied Bioengineering at the University of Pittsburgh and graduated from Pitt in April of 2012. After spending a year working as an engineer in the pharmaceutical industry, he felt called to join FOCUS staff. Although never having traveled to the Northeast, he is excited to experience all Vermont has to offer. Steve loves to stay active and enjoys the outdoors. Some of his interests include fly fishing, skeet shooting, poker, pick-up basketball, and rugby.
Ruby was born and raised in Lafayette, Indiana where she also attended college at Purdue University. She graduated in 2011 with a degree in Human Services. She served her first year with FOCUS at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, SD. While it was a great year in South Dakota she is very thrilled to move to Vermont and experience life in the east. Ruby enjoys playing euchre, cooking, playing volleyball, trying new things on Pinterest, and laughing.
I am a New England girl! I grew up in Marlborough, MA and got my undergraduate education at the University of Connecticut. With a degree in communications, specializing in public relations I always knew I wanted to work with people! I felt called to serve as a FOCUS missionary during my senior year of college and haven’t looked back since. I am really excited to follow Christ to Vermont and serve the students of UVM! I love friends, family, playing the piano, laughing, my cats, and a good cup of coffee!
Paola Peña-Rojas is from the great state of Connecticut. She will be graduating from UVM in December with a B.A. in Political Science and a minor in Philosophy. By God’s grace and some encouragement from folks at the Catholic Center, she learned to embrace her Catholic Faith her first year and has been on a love roller-coaster with the Lord ever since. She loves movies, window shopping, and most of all canoeing. She is excited to see where the Lord will be leading her while serving with FOCUS!
