In the comedy Groundhog Day, Bill Murray plays a self-indulgent character with absolute freedom from the consequences of his actions. Popular culture often portrays college life as a type of Groundhog Day, to find liberation from all authority and do whatever one wants. We are told to take advantage while you can, for this is the best time of our lives. But is that what college is really all about? Does it really bring happiness? Come to the UVM Catholic Center’s First Annual Groundhog Day Lenten Retreat where we will watch the movie and discuss its implications for Catholic college life in three parts:
Sunday, March 25th after Mass: College and God’s Gift of Human Freedom
Monday, March 26th at 7:30 P.M.: Sin, It’s Not What You Think
Thursday, March 28th at 7:30 P.M.: Getting Out of the Spiral: God’s Grace, the Sacraments, and Human Virtue
And don’t forget, there will be free pizza every night!
